Praising the Lord, banyan tree, surfing, mahi, mahi and the hot tub - Day 5

Tim decided to try the camouflage look yesterday - can't see him, can you?!

We started out Sunday morning at the Catholic church where we were treated to music by guitar, ukulele and banjo, along with two young girls doing a hula praise dance - beautiful way to worship!

After church, we headed for the hot surfing location - "where the BIG waves are", via the town of Lahaina.
In Lahaina, there was music, arts & crafts and ice cream under the huge banyan tree - which is quite bit larger than when we saw it 22 years ago!

After leaving Lahaina, we drove to the northern tip of "West Maui" where we were told the best surfing waves are.  Here are a couple shots of Tim checking off another item on his "bucket list"....

 Can you see the guy in the middle on the yellow-tipped surfboard?  Yup, that's him!  (It was borrowed equipment, of course - who can take a surfboard on a plane - seriously!)

Then he got tired... he's the one laying down on the board in the center of this picture...

Can't really tell you which one he is here... ;)

After surfing, we checked out the Ritz Carleton - pretty nice but we prefer our Marriott.

At one point, we stopped along the road because we saw a couple whales "spouts".  It turned out to be a mother and baby.  The mom was teaching the baby how to jump (we know this!), and she breeched 5 times in a row!  We could easily see her without the binoculars.  Then the baby jumped several times and made a little baby splash!  It was great!  There were some crazy people out on stand up paddle boards that looked way too close to the whales...

After we had enough whale-watching (and Tim's stomach was growling) we drove to the Beach Bums restaurant at a marina and had our mahi-mahi dinner served on a surf board.  It was fun.  We found a piece of driftwood for mom, but not sure how to get it home.  Pictures in the next entry... hopefully... !  Then we headed back to the hotel and broke the "pool closed at 6PM" rule and went in the hot tub!  Delightful!
