Tuesday - Day 14

Our next-to-the-last day (Tuesday, the 19th) dawned bright, beautiful and sunny.  We went for one more walk - first along the lava fields that led to the resort....

     
                                                                                                                    and then back along the ocean.                                                                                

 

We watched as some people got ready for a whale watching/snorkeling trip at 8AM on the beach.  It was already quite windy and we were glad it was them.












On our walk back along the ocean path, we saw a couple sea turtles.  They really blend in with the bottom of the water and are hard to spot. They are fun to watch and we decided that they eat the moss on the rocks.  They are like the ducks in Lake George - when they eat, the tail end of their shell sticks up out of the water! This guy was quite close and quite big.

 Back at the hotel, we had a nice fruit and yogurt breakfast while watching the dolphins.  On the way
to the dolphin pool, we saw this guy just sunning himself along the swimming lagoon.

We also saw a wedding at the little chapel.      












After getting some of our packing done, we headed for the town of Kona.  This was where we stayed with mom, dad, Aunt Thelma and Bob when we were here 22 years ago.  Things have changed.  After driving around a bit, Tim thought he recognized the restaurant where we went and got mahi-mahi sandwiches.  He also remembers that dad got a hotdog... :)  The restaurant is now named "The Fish Hopper".  We don't know what it was then.

We drove down the "strip" on the beach in Kona, but couldn't remember for sure what the name of our hotel was back in 1991.  It seemed quite a bit more built up in any case.  We went to BubbaGump Shrimp for lunch and had a great assortment of delicacies as seen here.

As usual, the restaurant was on the beach with a great view.

After lunch we left the

On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at one of the many public beaches.  Very picturesque.  Notice what's in the wave.  (Tim's excellent photography skills!)

Then it was time to go back and watch our last Hawaiian sunset.
